The latest entry in the Amnesia series, Amnesia: The Bunker, is free to play on Steam right now as a demo.

Frictional Games announced that fans can try out the upcoming survival horror, and get a feel for the horrors and gameplay additions that await them.

Exploring an underground bunker, the player will need to navigate the long and dark corridors, searching for clues, equipment and secrets that’ll help them on their adventure, all while avoiding, or fighting, the dangers that dwell within. It’s stated that the game is partially open-world, in the sense that the bunker can be explored at the player’s own pace.

Of course, given that it’s an Amnesia game, it won’t be short of spooks and scares, but you’re not entirely helpless. You’ll be equipped with a revolver, and can find other helpful tools to assist your survival as you traverse the underground.

The most exciting addition is the freedom of play on offer to survivors. The developers have stated that one of the core parts of the gameplay is experimentation and a bit of trial and error, with most obstacles having more than one solution to discover. Every decision the player makes through exploration, completing puzzles, and tackling threats will be remembered by the game, and affect the way it responds, presumably making things easier or harder depending on your choices. It’s interesting, to say the least, and a little bit cryptic, but a horror game that adapts and reacts to your playstyle sounds terrifyingly brilliant.

Amnesia gained notable popularity with its first entry, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which was the subject of multiple online playthroughs by YouTube superstars, such as PewDiePie and Markiplier. It spawned multiple sequels, bolstering the terrors and the lore into a beloved horror series, with this new entry promising an experience that’s even more disturbing.

Amnesia: The Bunker, arrives on PC via Steam on the 6th of June, with a demo available to download and play on Steam right now!
