2022's most disturbing horror is streaming now

Psychological horror film Smile is now available to watch at home, if you're feeling brave.

When it comes to horror movies, 2022 has been quite a year. The film that probably springs to mind for most is Damien Leone’s Terrifier 2 - the notoriously gory slasher apparently caused some audiences to pass out and throw up upon seeing it in the cinema.

However, one incredibly creepy psychological horror also made quite the splash. Smile was well received by fans and critics alike when it released in September, and as reported by GamesRadar+, it’s now available to watch from home.

Check out the trailer for Smile right here - be warned, it’s pretty spooky.

Without getting into spoilers, the story follows a psychiatrist called Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), who, after witnessing a traumatic incident involving one of her patients, begins experiencing scary and unexplainable events. As you likely gathered from the trailer, it’s definitely not good news if you see someone grinning at you in this universe - the whole thing makes for a very unnerving watch.

If you’re feeling brave, the movie is now available to watch on Paramount+, so you can get extra comfy before subjecting yourself to the nightmare fuel. Please do keep in mind though that many viewers have flagged content warnings for suicide and trauma - some may find certain scenes upsetting or disturbing.

Anyway, if psychological horror isn’t your style, the aforementioned Terrifier 2 can also now be watched from home via Amazon Prime Video. Considering it skipped UK cinemas due to being deemed “too extreme”, this might be the only viewing option for some.

Terrifier 2 was recently submitted for Oscar consideration by its distributor, Bloody Disgusting, but not because it’s expected to win. “The thought of having members of the Academy endure an extreme unrated horror movie that they would otherwise consider beneath them? That’s just too hilarious of an opportunity to pass up,” Bloody Disgusting co-founder Brad Miska explained.
