Disgusting horror movie banned in UK for over a decade is finally available to stream

The 1976 film Eaten Alive is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video - it previously faced a decade-long ban in the UK.

I hope you have a strong stomach, because a recent addition to Amazon Prime Video sounds like it’s going to be a very difficult watch. So difficult, in fact, that it was originally banned in the UK for being too obscene.

As LADbible reports, Eaten Alive is a horror movie that delivers exactly what it says on the tin. Directed by Tobe Hooper (the director behind the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre), the film follows the tale of a hotel owner who begins feeding his guests to a large, resident crocodile. That’s certainly one way to deal with complaints, although I wouldn’t recommend it.

Take a look at the trailer for Eaten Alive below.

The film first released in the UK in 1982, where it was titled Death Trap, Eaten Alive. However, it caused quite a stir, and it wasn’t long before it was pulled from shelves under the Obscene Publications Act 1959. From then on, it faced a decade-long ban before a censored version was released in 1992, missing 25 seconds of footage.

Eventually though, at the start of the new millennium, the full, uncensored version of Eaten Alive was released, and it’s this version that’s now available to stream on Prime Video. Obviously, it’s a pretty old film at this point, so it might not hold up particularly well compared to the likes of Terrifier 2 (the disgusting horror that reportedly had audiences passing out and throwing up last year). Even so, I’m sure I’m not the only one curious to see what could have been so gross that it got the film banned.

Although it's probably a bit dated at this point, I still wouldn’t recommend watching this if you’re planning on eating after it - or even during, for that matter. Particularly if it’s anything that involves tomato sauce. Just, pick your movie snacks with care, alright?
