Steam Makes Hit 2018 Game Free to Download For Very Limited Time

100% off is rarified air

As platforms go, Steam actually does a great job with pricing games at a point where they're affordable. Particularly in the months following a game's release, it can usually be picked up at a reduced rate in one of the many sales the store puts on over the course of a year.

At the time of writing, the excellent Don't Starve franchise is having a significant sale, with up to 75% off the recommended retail price. At the same time, the Devolver Digital publisher sale is running until 22 September, with some of their best games available at a massive 90% reduction.

Sales like that come and go all the time on Steam, but it's very rare that a game which usually costs money becomes available for free. Fortunately for you, there is one game on the store right now that's subject to the fabled 100% reduction, but you don't have long to claim it if you want to keep it forever.

Developed by NipoBox, Away is a short narrative game that follows a hero at the moment of their death, placing you in a first person perspective, both visually and in how the narrative confronts the player.

The game has taken a very simplistic approach to both its art style and gameplay, so don't expect anything too crazy. Instead, you'll just need to work slowly through a story that games don't usually touch in any meaningful way.

That insane deal comes as part of a wider sale for the game's publisher, which is ripe with solid deals that are worth taking a look at. Crushed is a single or multiplayer survival sandbox set in an open world that's currently available for 85% off its usual list price.

Horror fans can pick up The Red Exile, a procedurally generated game where you have to escape a maniacal killer, at 80% off, making it less than £1/$1, for the budget conscious amongst you.

If 8-bits still feels like too many on a Monday, you can grab Knight's Night at 30% off. The retro "1-bit" platformer is the best reviewed game of the bunch, and actually looks genuinely decent if you like black and white mayhem.

The NipoBox Publisher Sale is only set to run 24 September, so you'll need to be quick if you want to pick up any of the major bargains, before they go back to their usual, more expensive prices.
