It’s pretty safe to say that when Starfield first launched, it was to muted reaction from many fans who saw nothing but issues and a vast empty space.
The game had its fans, of course, but overall many players believed that Bethesda had missed the mark, producing something far too repetitive and stretched too thin.

Nesmith made these comments believing that the first game was rough around the edges, but laid a great foundation for future games.
Over on Reddit, players aren’t so sure, with one saying, “We'll see about that in like 16 years.”
This casts two doubts on the potential sequel; the first being one of quality, with the second being one hinting that some doubt the game would ever come out.
With Bethesda currently hard at work on The Elder Scrolls VI, then surely moving on to Fallout 5, unless they give the reins to another studio, a new Starfield won’t see the light of day for many years.

It seems most believe that the golden years for Bethesda are long since passed, and one fan notes that the quality has steadily fallen in recent years.
“Considering the fact that the issues in Bethesda's games have only grown [...] Bethesda should really shut the f**k up here,” says AscendedViking7.
This is echoed by Rogalicus, who said, “their games still suffer from the same flaws that plagued Oblivion, I'm not sure they're able to learn.”

These sentiments run throughout the whole Reddit thread and are summed up by GrouchyCategory2215, who jokes, “LOL... Oh, wait you're serious. Let me laugh even harder. LMAO!”
