Starfield players are bracing themselves for a major update, as the game’s second anniversary looms.

Originally released in 2023, Starfield quickly became one of the most middling RPGs of recent memory. While players felt the game had some beautiful sights and interesting quests, its exploration is ultimately what let it down.

It probably also didn’t help that it launched a few weeks after Baldur’s Gate 3, which ended up being the best game of that year for a lot of people.

Still, Bethesda has been trying its best to bring out new Starfield updates and expansions to fix up the game and improve on some of its criticised elements. With lead creative producer Tim Lamb even teasing new updates and expansions in a recent video.

Now, Starfield players are preparing for a major update to the game coming at the game’s second anniversary, which occurs on Saturday.

“With the 2-Year Anniversary on Saturday Sept. 6th, 2025 I believe we will get some major updates or news. Possibly even the information Tim Lamb teased in his highlight video,” writes a fan on the Starfield Reddit page.

They go on to write that the first anniversary for the game brought Surface Maps, the Rev-8 Vehicle, a load of smaller improvements and fixes, as well as the Shattered Space DLC.

However, nothing has been announced yet for the second anniversary. But that doesn’t mean Bethesda won’t surprise us with a new update or news regarding the future of Starfield.

“I think we'll get an anniversary post/artwork saying ‘stuff is coming’ and that's it. I don't think anything is ready to be shown yet,” writes one fan underneath the post.

“It took CDPR 3 years to turn around Cyberpunk,” another wrote. “I wouldn't say it's too late, but more of a matter how much they want to put into it as a company.”

“I'm not sure if we'll get anything on the 2nd anniversary in an update,” a third wrote. “My guess is that we'll get a trailer for the DLC and a potential release date for said DLC. If they were close to releasing it, either that video would've come out sooner or it would've been replaced with a proper trailer for the DLC.”

Starfield’s second anniversary occurs this Saturday, 6th September. So if any update were to be provided, it’s likely we’ll see it a few days before, or next week.
