Bethesda is one of the titans when it comes to making hugely expansive single-player RPGs.

As the developer of such tentpole franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, Bethesda knows that the best way to keep players interested in your game is to release new story expansions and other DLC over time.

After all, these are big games that bring in loads of players, but it’s the additional content and modding potential of these franchises that constantly brings people back.

Now, Bethesda is teasing a new story expansion for Starfield, its space opera RPG it released back in 2023.

Although the launch went a little iffy, the developer has committed to updating and improving the game through a series of post-launch patches.

Speaking in a new video released by Bethesda, lead creative producer Tim Lamb spoke about the future of Starfield.

“I think as it comes to Starfield, I’m really excited for players to see what the team’s been working on,” Lamb states in the video. “We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features the players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story.”

Lamb then goes on to explain that while he can’t go into details about what these updates entail, he can say that “part of the team has been focused on space gameplay to make the travels there more rewarding. We’re also adding some new game systems, and a few other smaller delights.”

Lamb also hints at more content coming from Starfield’s creator community, which develops officially sanctioned mods for the game that appear in the Creations menu.

“There’s also some really interesting stuff coming down the pipe from our verified creators,” Lamb states.

Although we don’t have a release date for these new updates yet, it’s likely that Bethesda will want to target some of the biggest improvements to release before the alleged PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 versions launch, which is rumoured to be next year.
