Some players think that Valve may be gearing up to announce the long-awaited sequel, as they’ve been digging through source files, finding some intriguing details.
Reported by Stannis_Loyalist, the user breaks down everything found that links to Valve working on Half-Life 3, but others aren’t so convinced.
This comes after years of memes, tears, and frustration, but Redditors aren’t yet ready to celebrate.
“Sources tell me it'll be a Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Title,” jokes raylan_givens6.
“This might be the only thing in gaming I believe is even less likely to happen than Bloodborne 2,” comments another user, further breaking hearts by mentioning the adored Bloodborne.
Half-Life 3 does feel a bit like a white whale now. Despite Valve committing to the franchise with Half-Life Alyx, and nods from other games, the wait feels endless.
Does Valve believe they simply can’t achieve the brilliance needed? Has too much time passed? It’s clear that fans haven’t moved on, though.
However, until Valve drags Gabe onto a stage to actually announce the game, everyone is carrying a large dose of salt.
Still, the jokes and roasts carry on within the Reddit thread.
“Half Life 3 will be released in 2011,” says DBONKA.
“It will be announced at E3,” replies TheEternalGlazed.
If it ever does surface, Valve would create massive waves throughout the fandom, and the entirety of the industry.
As one Redditor says, “This is breaking the freaking internet the second it's announced.”
The other entries in the Half-Life franchise are all considered masterpieces, and the expectation is that Half-Life 3 would be the best game ever made.
However, it has to be real for that to happen.
