Valve Drops Subtle Half-Life 3 Tease, We All Missed It

Half-Life 3… You know the rest!

Valve may have dropped a subtle tease for Half-Life 3 that we missed, but is it worth getting excited about?

Half-Life 3 confirmed is a tale as old as time. Well, at least since the existence of Half-Life 2: Episode Two, that is. For decades, literally, fans have been waiting for developers Valve to conclude the numbered trilogy of the legendary sci-fi shooter.

Half-Life 2 was originally released in 2004 on PC, before being ported to Xbox consoles. We were treated to two bonus episodes, which ended in 2007. However, we were supposed to get Episode Three, but that was cancelled by Valve.

So, if it wasn't bad enough that we never got Episode Three for Half-Life 2, Valve seemingly has no intention to release Half-Life 3, or at least it seems. At this point, the existence (or lack of) is pretty much a meme at this point.

From what I hear from a colleague, Episode Three is addressed somewhat in 2020’s Half-Life: Alyx, a prequel to Half-Life 2. But considering that I’ve never owned a PC capable of playing that game, let alone the necessary VR headset, I’ll take his trusted word.

There have been countless rumours over the years suggesting that Half-Life 3 is going to be announced; in fact, some of those rumours were very recent. Obviously, those rumours are yet to come to fruition.

Half-Life 3 Confirmed, Again?

That said, fellow hopeful fans believe that Valve itself may have subtly teased something related to Half-Life 3, or at least the series.

“THEY TEASED Half-Life 3!?!?!?” yelled ComparisonLate2601, likely in jest.

If you squint your eyes, you can see a number three with the red scribble around it. I know, this is clutching at straws, but it could mean something, right?

“Not gonna lie. That 3 is really suspicious,” replied ProfessionalHouse752.

“I feel like we're in no man's land at this point, and I think the announcement is coming with the Gabecube [Steam Machine] price announcement,” suggested TheNyanRobot.

However, I think most are taking this apparent reference for what it is, and that’s a troll.

“100% a reference to that meme with the guy and the clipboard behind him with the Half-Life 3 stuff,” said Virtual_Scientist_90, referring to an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I guess we’ll just have to retreat to our caves and reappear like Michael Bublé when the inevitable Half-Life 3 rumours resurface.
