Resident Evil First Aid Drink Collector’s Box review - Itchy Tastes Good

Resident Evil First Aid Drink Collector’s Box review - Itchy Tastes Good

The Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box has arrived and here's our review

On 9 May 1998, an Umbrella researcher wrote the now-infamous phrase “itchy, tasty. It’s a shame that the researcher never had access to the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box, because he may have tasted something truly tasty before becoming a member of the walking dead.

Created by GameFlavor, the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box is an official collaboration with Capcom and is limited to just 4,750 units worldwide and comes with a certificate of authenticity but most importantly, it comes with all the ingredients needed to create some tasty Resident Evil-inspired cocktail drinks. Well, almost everything… but more on that later. The ingredients for the cocktail drinks in the box are all non-alcoholic but you can add gin, tequila or whatever else tickles your fancy to spice things up.

As soon as you take the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box out of its packaging, fans of the survival horror series will no doubt be pleased with the design of the main packaging which replicates the iconic Item Box from the 1996 original game on PlayStation but in smaller form, of course. However, it’s what’s inside the box that is where the real magic can be found.

You get a total of four Ink Ribbon tins that once again replicate the in-game counterparts. But rather than using these Ink Ribbons to save your progress on a typewriter, each contains colours inspired by the herbs found in the Resident Evil series namely Hibiscus (red), Green Matcha (green), Turmeric (yellow) and Aronia (blue). The tins look fantastic and the herbs smell lovely. Yet, you must be careful when opening the tins. Not only is it easy to spill some of the herbs if not careful but the tins are a bit weak and easily dented. So, try not to be heavy-handed as it can jam the lid when twisting it off.

You also get 10 330ml sugar-free cucumber-lime-mint drinks in a can inspired by the First Aid Spray which is also a key ingredient needed for your cocktail concoctions. What’s more, you also get a spray cap to be applied on a consumed can which not only replicates the First Aid Spray from the game but also makes it ideal for proudly displaying amongst other Resident Evil merchandise that you may have. Other than tasting nice, even on its own, the cucumber-lime-mint drink tastes refreshing but it also gives your immune system a little boost and apparently helps improve digestion.

While you are free to create whatever cocktails come to mind, the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box comes with four cards with recipes on the front and back that are named after Resident Evil fan-favourite characters and items. We have the ‘Berry Burton’, mixed with blueberries, berry syrup as well as some lemon juice. It’s worth noting other than the items provided in the box, ingredients such as fruit, lemon juice, syrup and a mixer must be provided by yourself. This makes sense, otherwise, you will end up with a very heavy box for delivery with loads of items that could easily be purchased at retail, unlike the herbs.

Other flavours include the orange-tasting ‘Las Plagas’ inspired by Resident Evil 4 (one of my favourite flavours), and the lemony ‘Nemesis’ mixed with the red herbs inspired by the Resident Evil 3 tyrant.

They are joined by the sweet-tasting ‘Code: Veronica’, and the elderflower-infused ‘Samurai Edge’, inspired by the iconic pistol of the series. Then we have the ‘Cinatiropa’, inspired by the First Aid Spray which is my least favourite cocktail as I found the taste a bit too rich for my liking.

The last two flavours I was unable to try as the recipe cards had intended due to me not having the ingredients at home were the ‘Gaiden’, inspired by the obscure Nintendo Game Boy title and the ‘Revelation’ inspired by Resident Evil Revelations. Hopefully, I’ll acquire the ingredients needed for those two cocktails at a later date.

Elsewhere in the box, you get a ‘Making Of’ book which details the design process of the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box from the creators as well as some concept art and teases of what’s to come from GameFlavor in the future. As a fan of video game art books which feature similar concept content, this is a very welcomed bonus.

All in all with an RRP of £146, the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box doesn't come cheap with what’s in the box, not to mention the added ingredients that you’ll need to add to your shopping list. That being said, as an avid Resident Evil collector, the Resident Evil First Aid Spray Drink Collector’s Box is a fantastic bit of kit for any fan of the iconic survival horror series. Oh, and no Scott’s were harmed during the review, I promise.
