It’s bad news for gamers in India - Xbox Series S consoles are about to get even more expensive.
Unfortunately, gaming has never been a budget-friendly hobby. In fact, an old Toys R Us ad from 1996 has been doing the rounds online recently, reminding us of just that. But when consoles cost hundreds, and building up a good library of games often costs even more, the news that things are about to get even worse is never going to go down well.

As GameSpot reports, games market analyst Rishi Alwani took to Twitter a few days ago to write that the Xbox Series S is going up to Rs. 39,990 (that’s around £399 or $486). This comes just months after the console’s previous price hike - Alwani reported that it increased to Rs. 37,990 (approximately £379 or $461) in August 2022. It’s not known exactly why the consoles are becoming so expensive - one Twitter user suggested that it’s “almost as if Microsoft doesn't want to sell any in India.”
Last year, Sony announced a large price hike for PlayStation 5 consoles in a number of countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan. Shortly after, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that Microsoft had no plans to raise its console prices since it wouldn’t be the “right move” when “customers are more economically challenged and uncertain than ever”. Later in the year, however, Spencer warned that he thought “at some point we'll have to raise some prices on certain things”, so it already sounded like it was just a matter of time until things became pricer, and perhaps that's what we're seeing in motion.

It’s not currently known if the Xbox Series S price hike will be coming to other countries outside of India any time soon - we'll just have to stay tuned.
