Want a space-efficient console that packs a whole lot of power? Look no further than the Xbox Series S.

If your current console is starting to look a bit knackered - making you wait for what feels like decades every time you want to load up a game - it's time for an upgrade.

And there are few better times of year to jump on a tech deal than the build-up to Black Friday. For one of the best consoles out there for an affordable price, look no further than the Xbox Series S. This is the smallest, sleekest Xbox you can get - and Argos is currently selling it for the cut price of £199.99 (down from £249.99).

The best thing about this console is it's got all the power of the Xbox Series X, thanks to a custom SSD, meaning you don't have to endure an interminable wait every time you want to load a new game.

The reason the Xbox Series S is so compact is because it is completely disc-free - so all the games are digital. That means you can play some of the best games on offer - think Elden Ring, Fallout, Sea of Thieves, Assassins Creed and more - without having to faff with physical discs. All you have to do is purchase the games or sign up for a membership through Xbox Game Pass, download them and you're ready to go.

This console comes with a 512GB hard drive capacity, along with a wireless controller and a high speed HDMI power cord.

With an impressive average rating of 4.9 stars out of 5 from just over 2,000 reviews on Argos, people have gone wild for this console - in fact, 98% of them would recommend it. A big theme of the reviews is just how space-efficient the nifty model is. "I bought this 2 weeks ago and it runs perfectly no flaws at all. The size is perfect and can fit anywhere," wrote one gamer.

Another said: "Bought this not too long ago and works perfectly, very easy to set up, controller works great and feels good and also came with two batteries, the Xbox is very small and easily portable, came with all required cables and works very well."

A third was pleased with the sheer speed of the console, calling it "better than expected" and writing: "Bought this Xbox series S as a replacement for my old Xbox One S. The difference is night and day. New series S is so fast it's unreal. Happy with it."

The main gripes among customers tend to revolve around storage. "It has no disc to play them, digital only," warned one. "Great console shame that they want want so much for extra storage," chimed in another.

If you wanted more power and storage, you could level up to the Xbox Series X - which costs £479.99 direct from Xbox.com. Alternatively, there are plenty of deals out there for PlayStation fans to jump on - at Currys, you can get the PS5 Disc Console Slim for £400, down from £479.

But for plenty of power in a small package, you can't go far wrong with the Xbox Series S - down to under £200 at Argos.
