Yesterday saw Microsoft shock us all by announcing that it would be increasing the prices of both its hardware and software as a result of “market conditions” and developmental costs.
As a result, its Series consoles, controllers, headsets and games will receive a significant price hike and users are understandably unhappy.
Both the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles will receive a price increase.
The news broke just yesterday when Microsoft revealed that as of 1 May, the price for its consoles and accessories would be increased but the price of games are expected to change later this year.

In response to the latter, that means that we can expect to see first-party games cost around $79.99 when the price hike goes into effect.
The price increase will take place globally, except for headset prices which will only be increased in the U.S. and Canada.
“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development,” a statement from Microsoft to IGN read.
“Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.”

Some examples of the price hike include the Xbox Series X which will now cost $599.99 (previously $499.99), or the digital edition will be $549.99 (previously $449.99).
News of this price increase took to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours and, as you can expect, Xbox users were left feeling furious.
“$700 console with no exclusives is going to be a tough sell.
Can't wait to see the marketing division come up with a pitch for that lol,” user Nodan_Turtle shared.

“The only console generation where the people that bought them day one end up saving more money,” user 1vortex_ added.
Another user seemed to echo many user’s sentiments when they said, “I’m sorry but who in their right mind is buying a Series X in 2025 for $600?”
It seems as though this will be a tough few months for Microsoft, just another indication of things to come.
