Xbox Series S Getting Huge Upgrade Fans Will Love

Xbox Series S consoles are set to get a huge performance boost, Microsoft have announced.

Xbox hasn’t exactly been hitting the headlines for the right reasons lately. Just last week, former Xbox executive Peter Moore revealed that he actively stoked the fire of the so-called ‘console war’ between Xbox and PlayStation which isn’t something you should perhaps admit to.

Current Xbox boss Phil Spencer then revealed his most anticipated game is God of War Ragnarök. You know, the PlayStation exclusive … as opposed to Starfield or Redfall. Well, Xbox are finally back to focusing on their own products and it looks like the Xbox Series S is set to get a major upgrade.

We’re pretty excited about God of War Ragnarök too. Take a look at the latest cinematic trailer below.

As reported by The Verge, Microsoft looks set to boost the performance of the Xbox Series S - a cheaper alternative to the Xbox Series X. Microsoft are rolling out a software development kit that frees up more memory on the Xbox Series S which will allow developers to create content that pushes the console’s capabilities further.

Revealing the change, Microsoft’s game development team said, “Hundreds of additional megabytes of memory are now available to Xbox Series S developers. This gives developers more control over memory, which can improve graphics performance in memory-constrained conditions.”

It could take a while before Xbox owners feel the impact of these changes but we’ll start to see improved graphics and frame rates further down the line. Xbox Series S should be capable of displaying 1440p graphics but most games to date have run at a maximum of 1080p. The latest development kit certainly looks set to change that.
