Xbox's Latest Exclusive Hasn't Gone Down Well With Fans At All

You can't please everyone

Despite some concerns that this new generation of Xbox would fall into the same traps as its predecessor, the Xbox Series X (and Xbox Series S) have been knocking it out of the park so far.

Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 rightly dominated many GOTY conversations last year, all while Xbox continued to release banger after banger to its incredible Game Pass subscription service. And with massive companies like Bethesda and Activision now part of Xbox, it's clear those exclusives are going to keep coming.

Unfortunately, not every Xbox exclusive going forward is going to be a guaranteed winner. That seems to be the case with the latest release, CrossfireX, a new first-person shooter that appears to have landed with something of a thud.

CrossfireX has some serious talent attached to it, to be clear. The game's frenetic free-to-play multiplayer action has been developed by Smilegate, while Control studio Remedy Entertainment assisted on the single-player campaign.

You might not even be aware that CrossfireX launched this week, given the relative lack of noise Xbox has made about it. That's maybe just as well, as the last 24 hours have seen the shooter plagued with bugs, including one issue that's preventing players from accessing the campaign via Game Pass as intended.

"Needs A LOT of polish, graphics are very grainy, basically no in-game options, there's like zero HUD elements as to know where the Bomb is, there's no in-game progression, no ability to turn off aim acceleration... I can go on and on," one user wrote in response to the developer on Twitter.

"Worst game I've ever played on launch. I've waited all this time. This is another Cyberpunk 2077," added another.

In a developer update, the CrossfireX team acknowledged much of the player feedback from the last day and have outlined some of the fixes that are currently being worked on.

"These updates will take some time, but we are dedicated to including all of them in our first game update, which is planned for early March, 2022," they wrote. "Again, thank you for your valuable feedback, your love for CrossfireX and your patience. Together, we’ll continue to grow and refine CrossfireX as a community."
