Xbox Game Pass drops $135 worth of freebies for this weekend only, including an exlcusive AAA shooter

A triple threat of free games worth over $100, you say? Yes, you heard correctly: Xbox Game Pass has geared up for a huge weekend of entertainment with another quids-in giveaway.

In anticipation of an autumn that’s packed with massive game releases, Xbox is getting out early and opening this season of madness with its exclusive Gears of War: E-Day.

Before its full release on October 6, Xbox Game Studios has rolled the cogs to open the iron gates into the city of Kalona with a free offering.

Alongside a double-header of fantastical, tactical RPGs, the Gears of War: E-Day beta is headlining a hat-trick of free giveaways this month on the Xbox Game Pass subscription.

Xbox Game Pass giveaways - August 14-17

Following on from a week of free indie additions like a Studio Ghibli-inspired world builder and a post-apocalyptic Resident Evil-meets-Operation game, Xbox has now revealed its three weekend giveaways that need claiming before time runs out.

Gears of War: E-Day Beta

Kicking things off in a big way is the E-Day beta, which heads into its second weekend of action following a closed Early Access period.

Open to all Game Pass users, the beta includes Gears of War’s iconic PVE mode, Horde Siege, and an online 4v4 Versus mode for competitive play.

The latter mode opens with two maps and modes with all weapons unlocked, giving players a huge taste of what is to come in October and allowing the devs to iron out any quirks and creases in its $70 title.

Available until August 17, the beta was also celebrated by a new hardware drop from Xbox, although the two awesome controllers will need a few more pennies added to the pot.

Sunderfolk

Launched in 2025, Sunderfolk is a turn-based tactical RPG that has seriously impressed and continues to be supported with fresh updates.

Following a rabble of animalistic beasts, this four-player co-op title is one of the best multiplayer experiences out there, playable on keyboard and mouse or on mobile.

Built like a Dungeons and Dragons-like digital tabletop title, the narrative game is perfect for a weekend of fantasy storytelling and engaging combat against friends.

Asdivine Cross

Rounding off the trident-tipped weekend of Xbox Game Pass freebies is Asdivine Cross, which comes as a Zelda-esque 2D RPG.

Immersive and spellbinding, the title follows a cheeky outlaw who befriends a princess and escapes into the war-torn and beast-infected wilderness.

Great for a weekend of peaceful single-player action, Asdivine Cross is a true homage to the old-school adventure titles and is a great change of pace from E-Day's heavy machine guns.
