This weekend, you can play four absolute bangers on Xbox for free that you do not want to miss.
Sometimes, we can’t always fork out money for the latest video game releases, especially in this seemingly never-ending cost-of-living crisis. It’s why subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass can be great ways of saving money.
A monthly subscription fee that can grant you access to hundreds of games is a lot cheaper than one full-priced, newly released AAA title. This despite yet another sneaky PlayStation Plus price hike. Last year, Xbox Game Pass also raised its price, but it received a recent price drop, with a catch, might I add.
So, what are these free Xbox games that you can play this weekend, I hear you ask? Those games are Formula Legends, High on Life 2, Dying Light: Definitive Edition and Gears of War: Reloaded. They’re part of Microsoft’s latest ‘Free Play Days’ promotion.
Granted, there are a couple of those titles that will require an Xbox Game Pass subscription, but it is any subscription and not locked behind a specific one. These games are playable for free right now, until the end of Sunday, 31 May 2026.

Both Formula Legends and Dying Light: Definitive Edition will require an Xbox Game Pass subscription to play. Gears of War: Reloaded and High on Life 2 are available to all Xbox gamers with an online connection. However, while three of those games are the full offering, High on Life 2 is a five-hour trial.
Each of the four games can be accessed via the official Xbox Marketplace website or your console's store page, as well as by simply using the search tool. Just hit download, and wait for them to be playable.

Of course, that’s subjective, because we all have different tastes. That being said, Dying Light: Definitive Edition is a fantastic zombie horror game that blends Resident Evil with the forgotten EA classic, Mirror's Edge. It can also be played co-op, so if you can gather a friend, that’s certainly worth checking out.
Likewise, Gears of War: Reloaded, the latest remaster of the legendary Xbox game, is also a blast and can be played on your lonesome or with friends. Plus, this cross–platform title doesn't need an Xbox Game Pass subscription to check it out.
If you do decide to purchase any of these games once the ‘Free Play Days’ promotion has ended, you might be pleased to know that they are all discounted for the time being. Your progress and achievements earned will also carry over.
