The Witcher 4 teaser confirms how we’ll avoid another Cyberpunk 2077 launch disaster

This is a relief to hear

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most lauded RPGs out there, which isn’t something I thought I’d ever type after the game’s initial launch.

As I’m sure you are well aware, Cyberpunk 2077 launched in an abysmal state - much like the recently released MindsEye.

It was plagued by bugs and glitches, and certainly didn’t deliver on the promises made by CD Projekt RED.

It’s a whole different beast now; one that shines, with its engaging story, intricately detailed open world, and memorable NPCs.

Fair to say, CD Projekt RED won’t want to replicate Cyberpunk 2077’s arc.

The hope will be that The Witcher 4 will be a surefire hit straight out of the gate.

Already strategies are being put in place to make sure that that’s the case, with devs adopting a “console-first” approach to prevent themselves from spreading too thin, as we perhaps saw with Cyberpunk 2077.

As reported by GamesRadar, Charles Tremblay, vice president of technology at CD Projekt RED, recently explained as much to Digital Foundry.

“This time around, we really want to be more console-first,” he began, explaining that the studio would be aiming for 60fps on console.

As a reminder, reviewers only had access to the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077.

The limitations of the Xbox Series S are also something on CDPR’s mind.

"I wish we did a lot of work already on that, but we did not," Tremblay said.

"So, this is something that is next on our radar for sure. [...] 60fps will definitely be extremely challenging on the Series S. Let's just say that it's something that we need to figure out."

Of course, none of this guarantees that The Witcher 4 will be a bug-free success, but it’s clear to see that CD Projekt RED is at least putting itself on the most likely path to success.

No one likes a delay, but a delayed game is always better than one that is released too soon and suffers for doing so.

The Witcher 4 remains without a release date, so the studio has plenty of time left to cook.
