Where Winds Meet Free Download Changes Entire Feel of Game, PC Mod Goodness

Apologies in advance to folks playing on PS5

A new mod for the free-to-play action RPG Where Winds Meet is already proving to be a hit, as it offers players a way to customise some of the game’s most annoying features.

I’ll be completely frank with you; the release of Where Winds Meet on both PlayStation 5 and Steam has taken me by surprise.

I like to think that, considering my line of work, I have my ear to the ground with this sort of thing, yet the ever-growing popularity of this one is still somewhat baffling to me.

That isn’t to say that I think the game looks bad. On the contrary, I think it looks like a lot of fun… I just can’t wrap my head around some of these stats on SteamDB.

Ranked 7th in daily active users, 10th in top sellers, and an all-time peak of over 250,000 players. Those are some mighty impressive numbers for a game that I forgot was coming out of early access until the day of its release earlier this month.

It seems to be reviewing pretty well, too, especially with folks on Steam. As of writing, it currently has an 88% “Very Positive” score with over 64,000 total reviews.

However, there is one issue I keep seeing popping up in a lot of the reviews– an, no, before you ask, I’m not referring to the microtransactions. Oddly enough, the reviewers actually seem to be a fan of how those have been implemented.

What I’m referring to is the HUD elements, which several players have criticised for taking up far too much of the screen’s real estate.

Thankfully, a user by the name of Gametism over on Nexus Mods has attempted to rectify these issues with their mod No-HUD-No-Effects.

As many of the commenters over on Nexus Mods have pointed out, there is already an option to remove most of the HUD elements in Where Winds Meet.

Gametism’s mod is slightly more thorough than the options offered in the game however, as it allows you to toggle things like the particle effects, lightning effects, lens flare, and even the fog.

I will say, though, considering Where Winds Meet is an always-online, free-to-play title, I’m not entirely sure that it’s safe to mod the game.

I’m just saying, proceed at your own caution, because there’s a chance that, if the game detects that you’re using mods, your account may get flagged. Proceed at your own risk.
