Where Winds Meet Dropping Huge New Free Expansion This Week

Prepare to enter Roaring Sands.

Where Winds Meet players can explore a huge free new expansion this week.

In case you missed it, Where Winds Meet has been one of the biggest hits on Steam lately, with hundreds of thousands of players logging in each day.

Just under a month following the game’s titanic launch on PC and PS5, developer Everstone Studio is now about to release a massive new expansion for the game, adding a new region and lots of new content.

As shared in the game’s roadmap released a few weeks ago, 11 December marks the day that Where Winds Meet’s Roaring Sands region will open up for players, allowing them to explore this section of the world that was previously locked off.

Roaring Sands is described as “a place of eerie oddities, ancient prophecies, and legends that refuse to fade,” as described by Everstone’s head of publishing Eric Zheng in a recent video. It’s coming along with a new campaign, titled River Master.

Considering the release date of this new expansion, it sounds like it’ll drop during The Game Awards along with a new trailer. That’s our guess, anyway.

Along with the release of Roaring Sands, the roadmap also reveals this will be the date you can finally take Where Winds Meet on the go with you with the new mobile release. That means you’ll be able to explore Ancient China from your bed, on the bus, or even on the loo.

Speaking of mobile and handheld gaming, Everstone has also revealed that Where Winds Meet will be getting Steam Deck support in the future.

Some players already report that Where Winds Meet runs fine on Steam Deck with some tweaking, but Everstone will be working to get a properly optimised version of it running on Valve’s handheld.

Details of this came along with news that the developer is working on further console optimisations, so it seems as though Everstone is keen to get as many people as possible playing Where Winds Meet ahead of the buzz it’s getting in game of the year discussions.

Where Winds Meet launched on 14 November 2025, and has gained hundreds of thousands of players in that time.

At the time of writing, the game has a 24-hour concurrent peak of 163,820 players (according to SteamDB), with the highest all-time peak being just shy of 250,000 players.

Given that that’s only Steam numbers too, I can imagine the game is also immensely popular on PlayStation 5.

However, exact numbers between both platforms aren’t available in a live capacity, but Everstone did reveal at the end of November that the number of players had exceeded 9 million.
