2025 has really been an immense year for video game releases and they've just as often come from left field as they have from more established franchises where the expectation of quality is high.
Developer Sandfall Interactive blew everyone away with their first ever release, as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 drew major plaudits for everything from its gameplay innovations to its stunning visuals.
That wasn't the only one though, and even this late in the year, new releases are set to arrive that could carry on that trend of impressing fans outside of the major franchises.
Where Winds Meet is an upcoming adventure RPG with a story centred on China in the 10th century. The game is rooted in Wuxia and players will assume the role of a young sword master as they set out on a journey to discover their identity.

The game features a beautiful dynamic world that puts most AAA releases to shame, everything within which changes based on the decisions you make, as well as the weather and the passage of time.
The combat is where it looks really set to shine, with a ton of different, devastating playstyles available that you can tune to work seamlessly with the weapon you're choosing to use. That can be anything from swords, spears and dual blades, to rope darts, bows, fans, and umbrellas.

The game has been out in China for a year now, so there's plenty of finalised gameplay footage floating around and it's safe to say fans in the West are impressed with what they're seeing.

In a post sharing some footage from the game, potential players were keen to share their thoughts.
"Can't wait for this. Few more days! Well for my region at least! I talked my friend into trying to duo this game while taking separate paths for allegiances and affinities to good and bad," one comment read.
"Where Winds Meet Closed Beta made me put down my 1st time playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima on PC... I never looked back.
Some games speak to you more than others," another added.
