An upcoming PC survival game looks a lot like a cross between Valheim and Minecraft, with a bit of inspiration from The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom thrown in for good measure.

We have a lot thank Minecraft for when it comes to open-world sandbox games, as its simple, blocky art style and world design showed you could still make a banger game without pouring all of your resources into the visuals.

Minecraft has, of course, been updated over the years to improve its textures and graphics, but the overall aesthetic has remained the same, so no wonder other game creators have been inspired by it.

Everwind is clearly one of those titles, as it’s a game with a blocky environment where you basically make your own adventure rather than have a set story to follow.

The game’s description reads, “Everwind is a novel take on RPG and Sandbox Survival genre in First-Person-Perspective. Embark on the adventure with your friends - Build a base on a flying island-ship, gather resources, craft, loot, and fight while you rise above the clouds to uncover the mysteries of this world!”

I had the opportunity to sample Everwind at this year's Gamescom and had a lot of good things to say about it - especially its main gameplay mechanic, sky ships.

Everwind lets you build, customise and pilot your own air vessel, controlled by engines and hot air balloons to lift it off the ground and steer it through the clouds.

Unlike Minecraft where the player spends the majority of their time underground, Everwind has the player ascend to floating islands in the sky, which contain their own unique treasures and dangers.

When you’re not standing on your ship, you’ll be searching for supplies and crafting various tools and items to help with your adventuring, like weapons to fend off whatever hostile creatures you find.

I liked what I played at Gamescom and it definitely feels like a game made for multiplayer, as every player can have their own vessel or congregate on just one. I did ask if PvP was being considered and while it won’t be there at launch, it is something on the developer’s radar.

If you’re eager to try the game out for yourself, it’ll soon be launching in early-access on Steam, though a full release date hasn’t been shared just yet.

A console release is also planned but full details have not yet been revealed.
