The Legend of Zelda fans need to play this open-world sandbox adventure game, where you can build your own airship and soar through the sky.
Gamers aren’t short of sandboxes to play it and titles like Minecraft proved just how fun it can be when you’re given a selection of tools and told to just go nuts.
Pokémon Pokopia is a great example of this because why wouldn’t you want to build your very own Kanto region?
The game we’re talking about today is another indie that challenges your creativity, though this time your adventuring is done via an enormous, customisable airship.
We’ve spoken about Everwind before and after playing it at last year’s Gamescom, it’s been on my radar ever since.

At the time of writing, it’s only available on PC, but given time, we’re sure a console port will be possible one day.
Everwind is now getting its first major expansion, which is free-to-play for those with a copy of the game. If you’re yet to grab it for yourself, it’s available on Steam for $24.99/£20.99, which is a steal for how many hours you can sink into it.
The new update is called The First Ascent, and it’s quite a hefty expansion. It improves the overall world generation by introducing new treasures to uncover, updated locations, more enemies/bosses and reworked biomes.
Crafting also gets some quality-of-life improvements, as does the third-person camera, making it easier to aim with ranged weapons.
Plenty of bugs have also been fixed and the tutorial has been updated so new players can be brought up to speed more effectively.
It’s hopefully the first of many and in time, we do not doubt that Everwind could ascend to the same level as other sandbox games like Minecraft, especially when the game’s multiplayer gets expanded.
Everwind’s official Steam description states it’s a “novel take on RPG and Sandbox Survival genre in First-Person-Perspective. Embark on the adventure with your friends - Build a base on a flying island-ship, gather resources, craft, loot, and fight while you rise above the clouds to uncover the mysteries of this world!”

As we said before, the crux of the game is exploration, making it an ideal sandbox to play in if you’re into games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
It’s ultimately up to you how you play. You start your adventure on the ground but once you fix up and fuel an airship, you’ll be able to take off into the clouds.
Loads and loads of islands can be found up above and the higher you go, the more dangerous they’ll become. It's a high risk high reward scenario, though as while you’ll encounter deadlier enemies, you’ll also uncover more valuable treasures.
It’s worth a go if you have money to burn, and with more updates on the way, we’re excited to see where the game goes next.
