It's been a tumultuous time for the publisher.

Arising from anonymous employee interviews, it seems those three cancelled Ubisoft games left their playtesters cold. But, it's not all bad news for fans of the publisher's roster of titles.

Ubisoft is in the midst of it at the moment. For a little challenge, I would like you to name three of its 2022 titles. It's difficult, isn't it? No shade to Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, of course, as we rated that a lot. Enduring a yearly loss of about $500 million, Ubisoft held an emergency meeting with its investors earlier this month to disclose that 2022's sales have fallen far below expectations and three unannounced games have been shredded.

Check out the trailer for Skull and Bones, set for a release in two months time, below:

The loss of those projects isn't lost on us. At the end of the day, there are a huge number of people working on them for what might be a few years of their careers. For nothing to show to their efforts, it's more than a bit gutting. Insider Gaming has been speaking with five current and former anonymous Ubisoft employees who shed a little light on why these cancellations occurred.

Conclusively, it sounds like the three games that were in the works were not a hit with playtesters. On the other hand though the employees said that the delays to Skull and Bones and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora come from an aim to polish these games to a sheen.

“We certainly aren’t running short of games, they are just taking forever,” added one employee, revealing that they're a developer on an unannounced live-service game and have been since 2019. However, this game isn’t scheduled to release until 2025 or 2026 at the earliest. Ergo, we should temper our expectations when it comes to new Ubisoft games, and hopefully we'll be impressed.
