The entire Star Wars franchise hinges on one important character, the chosen one, the driving force that shaped the galaxy into what it is now.
There’s been so much debate over which character holds the title, whether it’s Anakin Skywalker, his son Luke Skywalker, or Rey Skywalker.
You can make a case for all three, with Anakin being the one born with the most potential and returning to the light to stop Palpatine. However Anakin wouldn’t have surrendered to the light if it wasn’t for his son Luke bringing back the Jedi and convincing him to change. Then there’s Rey, who ultimately was the one who defeated Palpatine after he prevented his initial demise and brought peace back to the galaxy.
Star Wars viewers have debated the topic heavily, but have come to the conclusion that out of all three candidates it’s Anakin who’s the one, true chosen one.

“Yes, he was, he did exactly, what he was supposed to do: Kill the Sith. Done” said one fan on a Reddit thread.
Others agreed but admitted it could all depend on your point of view, as was George Lucas’ intention when crafting the story.
One fan said “Lucas has stated his intentions but the films are intentionally vague, especially considering that Luke is absolutely necessary for Anakin to achieve the prophecy.”
In my humble opinion it’s still Anakin who should be regarded as the chosen one. He was a mystery from birth and Palpatine luring him to the dark side felt like a direct attempt to sabotage his destiny as the chosen one. Luke was essential in completing that prophecy but it ultimately still hinged on Anakin.

Given that George Lucas had no hand in the sequels I’d argue that they have no place in the conversation, sorry Rey.
