Star Wars fans torn over plot of new Rise Of Skywalker sequel

He's a Star Wars guy, in a Star Wars world

Star Wars fans are torn over rumoured plot details for a confirmed The Rise of Skywalker sequel that was announced in April this year.

Despite the first movie in the ever-popular sci-fi series arriving in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, it seems like the franchise has no intention of slowing down anytime soon, whether it’s a movie on the big screen or a series on Disney Plus.

Announced during this year's Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan, Star Wars: Starfighter is a new movie starring Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049, La La Land, Barbie).

Star Wars: Starfighter, which is currently in pre-production, co-stars Mia Goth, is written by Jonathan Tropper and directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Arrival).

At this time, not much else is known about Star Wars: Starfighter, other than it will take place roughly five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. However, new details have emerged.

In a tweet shared by Culture Crave, it’s said that Ryan Gosling’s character is protecting his young nephew from evil pursuers, and Mia Goth is playing one of its villains. What’s more, it’s claimed that it could bring back some characters from the sequel trilogy.

However, not every Star Wars fan is excited for Star Wars: Starfighter as a result of this recent information.

“Involves the sequels, no thanks,” exclaimed ReddFive5.

“Set it in the original trilogy timeline and we've got something interesting,” said mjarbo.

“Well, I think that the plot will be about Palpatine somehow returning once again,” replied the sarcastic the_orionnn.

“Bring back Finn and do him some justice,” demanded southernstonerd.

“Don’t bring back any sequel characters, they all suck, scrap all that trash and move forward,” declared JihnRoh.

We’ll, of course, update you once official details drop, hopefully in the coming months, along with a trailer. It’s also worth keeping in mind that any unconfirmed details should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

Star Wars: Starfighter is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on 28 May 2027.
