Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film is confirmed to be coming to cinemas in 2027, and has Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
The film was discussed during Star Wars Celebration 2025, and is confirmed to be titled Star Wars: Starfighter.
A first-look was not provided as filming is yet to start but it was said to be set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
Ryan Gosling took the stage to talk about his love for the Star Wars franchise, and how he’s very excited to be part of its ever-expanding universe.

It's a great casting, as Ryan Gosling can play a loveable rogue very well so it'll be interesting to see how his unannounced character competes with the likes of Han Solo and Andor in terms of character.
Shawn Levy confirmed that production on the film ill start later this year, with a 28 May 2027 release date.
Described as a “standalone adventure” the film will star an all-new cast of characters, so although it’s set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, Rey and her new Jedi Order probably won’t be returning just yet.
Nevertheless it sounds very exciting, and the premise of it being a starfighter film could give it that Fast And Furious vibe which would be very cool for the Star Wars galaxy.

My personal hope is it takes a few notes from some of the starfighter video games we’ve had over the years, either through character cameos or something else.
Lord knows we're definitely going to have some ace action scenes, so either way it's going to be a banger right?
Star Wars: Starfighter will land in cinemas on 28 May 2027, with production starting by the end of the year.
