Star Wars' new Rise Of Skywalker sequel isn't what we expected at all

There’ll be a new Padawan

We’re getting a surprise sequel to Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and it looks like it will be a much-needed tale.

At the heart of any good Star Wars story it’s a tale of good triumphing over evil (hopefully) with young Padawans such as Anakin Skywalker, channelling the light side of the Force to overcome those who aim to shroud the galaxy in darkness.

However, we all know how Anakin Skywalker turned out, but you get my point. At least in a major Star Wars movie on the big screen in recent years, there’s been a shortage of young Padawan stories.

I’m not counting Luke Skywalker or Rey as young Padawans, because they were both about 19 years old when making their Star Wars debut. Unlike Anakin, who was said to have been around 9 in The Phantom Menace, who, might I add, was still older than most Padawans.

That being said, it looks like we might be getting a long-awaited young Padawan story. As reported by The Direct (via Daniel Richtman), a Jedi Master and young Padawan tale may be on the cards.

The movie in question looks to be the already announced Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy, and will star Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth.

Not a great deal is known about this movie just yet, other than it will take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Yet, sources of Daniel Richtman have reportedly provided some added intel on the movie.

“A Jedi (played by Ryan Gosling) trains his 15-year-old nephew as his Padawan,” states the apparent leaked plot details.

“They're on a mission while being pursued by two villains — one male, one female. The Padawan's mother also plays an important role in the story, and there’s another major female character as well.”

As always, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. Star Wars: Starfighter is expected to arrive in cinemas sometime in 2027.
