Star Wars Jedi quietly removed from the franchise by George Lucas, right under our noses

Star Wars Jedi quietly removed from the franchise by George Lucas, right under our noses

Justice for Yarael Poof!

There are likely countless Star Wars characters that we know very little about but yet, they somehow capture the imagination of devoted fans.

Take, for example, Jedi council member and Jedi Master Yaddle who we met in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. We saw very little of Yaddle following the prequel movie but her fate was recently revealed in an episode of the Disney Plus animated series, Tales of the Jedi.

ICYMI - Check out our chat with the cast of The Acolyte below!

Speaking of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, another character that we were briefly introduced to (and it’s not Jar-Jar Binks) was the Jedi Master Yarael Poof (however, he has appeared in the Star Wars Legends comics). Yet, if you don't remember that name, you’re forgiven, because other than looking very odd, his appearance was quite forgettable.

Yet, Yarael Poof who kind of resembled an upside-down stringy bogey still, somehow, garnered a cult following from some Star Wars fans. Unfortunately for Yarael Poof, as reported by CBR, his role in the Star Wars universe was cut short by series creator George Lucas unceremoniously without many of us even realising.

So why did Yarael Poof have his Star Wars role cut short, I hear you ask? CBR explains Yarael Poof was deleted due to having a resemblance to the Kaminoans race in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and it’s as simple as that.

It’s unclear as to whether we’ll see Jedi Master Yarael Poof again but perhaps with a bit of luck, just like Yaddle, he’ll get a lore story in a future episode of Tales of the Jedi on Disney Plus one day.

The most recent Star Wars live-action product is The Acolyte with its episodes released weekly on the streaming platform Disney Plus with its final and eighth episode airing on 16 July 2024.
