Star Wars quietly confirms Yoda’s origin right under our noses

Why's he green?

The origin of Jedi Master Yoda is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the Star Wars galaxy, but some of his past has now been revealed and made canon.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want a full history of Yoda - where he comes from, who he’s related to etc. I think part of his charm as a character is knowing very little about him apart from the fact that he’s very, very powerful.

We got a taste of that during his fight with Darth Sidious in Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith, which is returning to cinemas later this month.

That said, a little bit of extra lore never hurt anyone, and in the latest Star Wars novel, The Glass Abyss, we get another tidbit of information regarding the Jedi Master’s past.

The Glass Abyss is a novel focused on Mace Windu, before he lost his fight with Sidious and got yeeted out the window on Coruscant, presumably to his demise.

In the novel, Mace Windu visits Yoda’s private quarters, and notes a sand carving of a star system called Hysalria. In his thoughts, he remarks how it’s said Yoda trained under a Jedi called N'Kata Del Gormo on Hysalria, which was previously considered non-canon until now.

N'Kata Del Gormo was a powerful Jedi who Yoda met when he crash landed on Hysalria in his younger days, before he became a Jedi. N’Kata revealed Yoda was strong in the force and trained him into the Jedi we know of today.

He first appeared in a comic that’s since been placed under the Star Wars: Legends category, basically meaning it’s not legitimate to the lore, but with him being mentioned in The Glass Abyss, it seems that’s no longer the case, for better or worse.

With Star Wars exploring more of its history with spin-offs like Tales Of The Jedi, it’d be good to see an episode of Yoda when he was a young…thing… and give us a bit more insight into how powerful he actually could be.
