Star Wars fans horrified to learn Jabba The Hutt wasn't always a giant slug

Did you know this?

Jabba the Hutt is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe with his grotesque, slimish and sluggish ways, but you might be shocked to discover that he never used to look the way he does now.

In the Star Wars movie franchise, Jabba the Hutt made his initial debut in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and despite his appearance, he was known as one of the galaxy’s most conniving and dangerous gangters.

Yet, going back to what I mentioned earlier, Jabba the Hutt never always looked like a giant slug and he once had human (ish) like features, as discovered by Reddit user shadowwithaspear.

“I just now learned that this is technically what Jabba The Hutt looked like between 1977 and 1983,” they said sharing an image of a Star Wars comic.

“From the 1977 Marvel comic adaptation of the film, this was before the deleted scene with human Jabba was ever released. So technically this was visually the closest thing to a canon Jabba that existed until the release of Return Of The Jedi.”

“In 1977, there was a photo of this Jabba scene in the Official Collector's Edition magazine (or maybe another prominent magazine), the scene which was later overlayed with a CGI Jabba for the Special Editions where Jabba was human,” replied PaulCoddington.

“Wait till you see how he originally looked in the first movie. Just google 'Jabba the Hutt original movie version,'" advised OtherwiseAct8126. "Seriously, Google it, I just did and it blew my mind."

“Interestingly, if you listen closely in A New Hope (special edition), both the original release and Blu-ray re-release, just before Han boards the Falcon at Mos Eisley, the original line 'Jabba, you're a wonderful human being' can still be heard,” explained AstroBob1922.

The entire Star Wars franchise is available to stream now on Disney Plus.
