Star Wars fans horrified to learn what was actually inside the second Death Star

The dark side just got darker, much darker

The Star Wars universe is filled with much upsetting lore – it’s part of the reason we’re so consumed by its stories to this day.

Still, there are occasions when its horrifying history can surprise us.

This is one of those moments.

The existence of a second Death Star, although distressing in and of itself, becomes even more chilling when you learn of what lurked within its structure.

When Redditor Royalbluegooner asked what the most disturbing piece of Star Wars lore is, fellow fan TheBalteseFalcon replied, “I think the whole IG-88 uploading his consciousness to the second Death Star to purge the galaxy of biologicals.”

As they explain, the only reason such a future never comes to pass is because of the Battle of Endor.

Before anyone claims that this isn’t true, extensive research will confirm that it is.

Google it for yourselves if you doubt us.

On another thread, user Granite-M summarised what happened aboard the second Death Star.

“In an EU novel, it is revealed that IG-88 uploaded its consciousness to the second Death Star, and would have killed the crew and taken control of the entire station, planning an eventual galaxy-wide genocide of all biological sentient life.”

They continued, “All of which was averted when the rebellion blew up the second Death Star.”

It’s disturbing to think how close we came to a Star Wars universe devoid of biological life.

While the destruction of a planet is a horrific plan, this is undoubtedly more so.

This, combined with other intriguing lore, emphasises that Palpatine wasn’t the “true villain” of the tale.

Not always, at least.

Yet, while the darker side of the universe is crucial to our entertainment, so too are the tales considered too whimsical.

It’s getting to the point where Star Wars fans are struggling to recognise good TV, which is sad, as we need a multifaceted universe to ensure these interesting tidbits of lore remain.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to look at kitten photos.
