Some Star Wars fans would have you believe The Acolyte was cancelled because it was bad, however, an insider has finally explained what led to its demise.

In some respects, it feels like this Star Wars series was doomed from the beginning.

From the moment the first episode aired, factions within the fandom strongly opposed the characters and stories being told.

Here at GAMINGbible, we found it an “enthralling new era” for the franchise, but elsewhere, review bombing of the show started happening.

Okay, so is Star Wars Outlaws any good? Find out in our preview below

Granted, those fans initially review bombed the wrong movie, but it wasn’t long before their ire translated into a hefty reduction in viewership.

Which brings us to part of the reason why The Acolyte was cancelled, at least according to a Star Wars insider.

As detailed by Forbes, “low viewership” is largely to blame for the show’s premature end.

That and how quickly views for the Disney series rapidly decreased; various third-party sources have highlighted that episode two is when the audience seemed to switch off.

Beyond these obvious issues, there’s also the staggering cost of the show.

Fans were horrified to learn the true cost of The Acolyte, having discovered that for every minute of footage it cost roughly $670k

Even if some of these figures are slightly off, the show still had an (approxmate) $180 million budget.

If you focus on this alone, it makes sense why executives culled the show: there simply wasn’t enough of a return.

Not that knowing this makes the loss of The Acolyte any easier for the numerous fans desperate to know what became of its characters.

Hopefully they won’t have to wait decades for answers, unlike those who have been questioning how the Death Star was undiscovered for 18 years.

Despite one story within the Star Wars franchise coming to an end, there’s a new one that’s just begun.

For those of you looking to head into space in Star Wars Outlaws, we have some starter tips to help you navigate the game.

Let’s just hope this tale doesn’t have an abrupt and unpleasant ending as well.
