Star Wars fans roast the series' most glaring plothole, and we back it

It really is so silly

It’s funny that this story came to my desk this morning, as just yesterday I was watching a scathing take-down of Star Wars Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker, and it’s baffling just how gaping this plot hole is.

The Star Wars plot-hole in question doesn’t touch on Palpatine’s return, or the missing story for Finn, but on the fallen emperor’s ability to raise the largest fleet of warships the galaxy has ever seen, but in secret.

A Reddit thread reminds us that the actor Elijah Wood took issue with this on Twitter, after a Star Wars account gave a brief run down of the Emperor’s fleet.

Their tweet began, “Did you know?” to which Wood replied, “No, how would we have known?” pointing out that the film told us literally nothing and expected us to just gobble it down.

God, I hate this movie so damn much.

“The fleet felt so toothless, they weren't given any characterisation whatsoever, just a bunch of ships that we're told all have mini death lasers on them,” comments MikeArrow.

“The world building in the sequels sucked ass,” notes another Redditor.

It’s one thing to put certain stories on pause, or expect a little disbelief from the audience, but to suddenly have this galaxy killing threat appear and have the fans go along with it was just too much.

“Gutter tier filmmaking,” remarks InvidiousPlay.

Not going to lie, this comment is perfection - “Another reveal in Fortnite might've helped.”

It really does feel like modern storytelling has to be so piecemeal simply to sell countless other projects, or because creators don’t have the room to let plots breathe.

“It’s the only Star Wars movie I never watched more than once,” said KingVong. I can see why.

“I’m usually more forgiving over time, but not that movie…” said CantaloupeCamper. Yeah, ditto.
