The galaxy far, far away continues to expand at an exponential rate, and we don't just mean on the silver screen. Although it's fair to say The Mandalorian and Grogu failed to set the box office alight, there are high hopes that the Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars: Starfighter can bring balance back to the Force.
Elsewhere, there's no shortage of Star Wars games, with Star Wars: Zero Company and Star Wars: Galactic Racer both releasing in 2026.
With a rocky road to release for the likes of the Knights of the Old Republic remake and Star Wars Eclipse, the franchise's unfortunate legacy of axed games looms large.
We could sit here all day and list cancelled Star Wars games, and while Star Wars 1313 will always be remembered as the most tragic 'what if', let's pour one out for Project Ragtag, The Force Unleashed 3, and Battle of the Sith Lords. Adding another one to the pile, Star Wars: Magellan is a Destiny-inspired title you'll never get to play.
What is Star Wars: Magellan?
For those who are really up on their Star Wars lore, the Magellan was a Galactic Empire Imperial I-class Star Destroyer that appeared in a 1994 role-playing story called "Strange Bedfellows". Unsurprisingly, it's not considered canon.

As for the game, MP1st reports that the now-defunct Echtra Games has been working on this AAA action-RPG before it was shuttered by owner Zynga. Initially entering production in 2021, the game codenamed 'Magellan' surfaced thanks to an anonymous Echtra Games developer uploading a video to their personal portfolio. It's since done the rounds online and shows what could've been.
Playing out with a third-person perspective, the multiplayer ARPG includes 'shoot and loot' gameplay, with character models that are distinctly similar to Zynga's short-lived Star Wars: Hunters.
We see a Twi’lek Jedi known as 'Cleric' wielding a lightsaber and Force abilities, but the big talking point is a Mandalorian gunslinger referred to as 'Triggerfinger' in the game files.
Even following the hype generated by Disney+'s The Mandalorian, there's a distinct lack of Mandalorian-focused Star Wars games.
In Magellan, you'd be able to use his jetpack and flamethrower.
Finally, an 'NPC Bond system' was apparently baked into the larger narrative design strategy, suggesting non-playable characters were more than just throwaway companions.

The Star Wars x Destiny crossover we could've had
Notably, many in the replies to footage being shared on X noticed how Magellan was effectively Destiny with a Star Wars makeover. That didn't work out too great for Star Wars Outlaws being Assassin's Creed with a gloss of Star Wars magic, but there were a multitude of problems on that front.
Lamenting what we'll never get, one superfan wrote: "Literally Destiny but Star Wars. Honestly how hard is it to make a game about Mandalorian Bounty Hunters? I swear they are the gamify-able aspect of the entire franchise but games about them just keep getting cancelled."
Another raged: "So it’s Star Wars destiny?? WHY DO GAME COMPANIES NOT LIKE FUN????"
With Echtra going dark in 2025, and coming just one year after Outlaws faced a baptism of fire, as Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the whole Star Wars brand was "in a bit of choppy waters" , the comments quickly turned against Massive Entertainment's famous flop.
One critic simply raged, "We got Star Wars Outlaws instead of this wtf," while someone else concluded: "Stop canceling Star Wars game projects. We've missed peak like 10 times now!"
Sadly, Star Wars: Magellan has been tossed down the trash compactor as angry gamers continue to rage about how the IP is handled.
We know it's a tough market to make games in right now, but come on, guys, this could've been one for the ages.
