The fate of Darth Plagueis, at least in the current canon, is still shrouded in mystery.

The Sith lord who was so pivotal in the history of Star Wars, was last seen peeking out of a cave, plenty of potential ahead.

Darth Plagueis literally popped his head up in The Acolyte, and was never heard from again

Of course, Star Wars fans weren’t happy with the show for one reason or another, and it got cancelled, meaning old Plagueis is stuck in the shadows.

It was a tease not unfamiliar to fans, as we got a Darth Maul tease at the end of Solo, too, and nothing was ever done with it.

Over on Twitter, fans are lamenting choices made by Lucasfilm and Disney, with one saying, “Lucasfilm is better at keeping the Sith extinct better than the Jedi ever were.”

Another fan chimes in, saying, “Disney needs to stop listening to the annoying "fanboys" it ruined The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, and The Acolyte.”

Fan-service is one of those tricky things in pop culture - we all want more of our favourite heroes and villains, however, original stories and new characters push the franchises forward.

It’s not use being stuck in the past for too long, and Star Wars is guilty of doing this, perhaps more than others.

An interesting thought comes from one Twitter user, who says, “It seems like the pilot episode has turned into the pilot season, and the media landscape is far worse because of it.”

Many are quick to blame the fanbase for what has happened, and how it has gone on to impact characters like Plagueis, who could have becoming a dominant force in Star Wars TV.

Though, another fan has hope still, saying, “Just because the show is cancelled doesn’t mean the moments can’t be paid off in other projects.”

There’s lots of anger in the comments, with a mixture of some blaming fans, and others blaming bad writing. Either way, we potentially lost a great Plagueis story that was building up.
