The showrunner behind the best Star Wars series of all time has just revealed that one of their other projects had to be cancelled, and fans are not best pleased (mostly because it sounds like it would have been awesome).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tony Gilroy revealed that a very special episode of Andor had to be scrapped entirely… because Disney didn’t want to pay for it.

“Dan Gilroy wrote an amazing, entirely self-contained episode that was episode 209… It was an amazing episode that was like a horror movie,” Gilroy revealed to Entertainment Weekly.

"It was the K2 story,” he continued. “They had to bring this huge ugly tanker ship to Yavin, and there was a KX unit that was trapped inside there hunting. It was sort of like a monster movie with K2 on it. It was really cool.”

Sounds awesome, right? So, uh, why didn’t they follow through with it?

Because Disney wouldn’t give them the budget for it.

Andor's second and final season will soon conclude.

“We could not afford to do it,” Gilroy sighed. “It was made clear that it was out of the range, so we had to abandon that and consolidate things.”

Oh, cool, yeah. Just waste millions of dollars putting a bunch of other Star Wars projects into pre-production and then never follow through with them, but refuse to give the budget to the one Star Wars series that’s actually really good. Great move, Disney.

Over on the r/StarWars subreddit, fans were understandably not too pleased to hear that such a cool idea was scrapped for budgetary reasons.

“I would have loved to see that!” commented user SoulxxBondz.

“Like an Alien-esque type thing, except it is a robot! Would have been crazy, especially given how menacing the KX droids were in the actual episode!”

“Whatever he wrote, recycle for an HK47 movie,” replied user chewbacca_martinis.

“You're welcome, Disney. I'll take my 5% cut by zelle.”

Honestly, what is Disney playing at?

This isn’t just the best Star Wars thing you’ve ever produced; Andor might be the best piece of Star Wars media ever. Give Tony Gilroy whatever he wants, you dummies. If he wants to spend 200 million on a cool droid horror episode, you let him.

I swear to god, if Star Wars: Starfighter costs anything more than 100 million, I will lose it.
