Natalie Portman, the actress behind Padmé in all three Star Wars prequel films, was recently asked if she’d be keen to return to the franchise down the line… and she seems more than up for it.
The problem is, the fans aren’t entirely convinced that having her return to a new series in Disney’s Star Wars timeline is a particularly great idea.
Earlier this week, Portman was interviewed by the hosts of the UK talk show The One Show (per Yahoo).

The hosts asked her whether or not she’d be interested in reprising her role as Padmé, and how exactly she’d want to see the character reintroduced (considering she’s, you know, dead).
"With a lightsaber. I think she'd have to be a Jedi,” Portman replied.
“If somehow she were brought back from the dead… that would be exciting."
Although the idea sounds great in theory, fans can’t seem to decide whether or not they actually want Portman to return to the franchise (or how they’d want her to return, for that matter).

Have you watched Tales of the Underworld yet?
Over on Star Wars Holocron’s Twitter post detailing the interview, all over the commenters seem to like the idea of Portman coming back… but simultaneously don’t think it’s a good idea.
“Yeah as cool as it would be, we don't want key characters to be revived, commented user @amphytheatre.

“Disney needs to just make a 'What If' series for Star Wars at this point,” replied user @atchfam77.
“So many cool ideas that wouldn’t really gel with canon but deserve an on-screen interpretation.”
I love Natalie Portman, and I’d be happy to see her return to the franchise in one way or another… but I don’t think having Padmé come back from the dead is a particularly great idea.
Maybe there’s a way it could work, but I think it would ultimately just seem like a cop out. Perhaps, however, there’s always a chance she could appear in another prequel series, prior to Padmé’s death?
