The next Star Wars trilogy is in the works, and while we don’t know much about it, we can only hope that it’s better than the last one.
Now to be fair, the Star Wars sequels had a lot going for them, and I’d still argue that Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is a great film, even if it did feel like a nostalgia rerun of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope at times.
Plus who can forget that first trailer right? It promised emotion and the film delivered.
The real problem with the Disney sequel trilogy is that it wasn’t planned ahead of time, meaning each film felt disconnected from the last despite it trying to tell a coherent story, which is something that’ll hopefully be rectified with the new trilogy.

Fans are sceptical though, and how can they not be after what’s come before?
They’re already predicting the next three films will be just as messy as the previous ones.
“I will be surprised if this trilogy even has a consistent direction,” said one fan in a Reddit thread. Another added, “Please, I can only take so much bad news.”
Others were a bit more optimistic, as the trilogy is apparently being directed by Simon Kinberg.

“Simon Kinberg? Could be good, he wrote and produced X-Men Days of Future Past, produced First Class, The Martian. But he also wrote Dark Phoenix (and directed it),” one comment stated.
Obviously, there are no story details yet but many are speculating Disney will once again be thinking about nostalgia rather than original storytelling, with one Reddit user suggesting it’ll make the villain Darth Maul’s secret son or something just as silly.
Either way, you won’t be seeing Star Wars Episode X for quite a while, with the next Star Wars film being The Mandalorian And Grogu, which could be peak.
As a reminder, the Rey film that's in development is believed to be unconnected to the new trilogy, so make of that what you will.
