With Chris Hemsworth set to reprise his role as the God of Thunder in Avengers: Doomsday, it seems as though we will get to see him a whole lot sooner thanks to an unexpected return.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to rival that of Avengers: Endgame as many of our favourite superheroes are set to make a return in the highly-anticipated 2026 movie.

As the first Avengers entry since Endgame hit cinemas back in 2019, fans will get to see characters both new and old come together to take on the threat of Doctor Doom and one of which includes none other than Thor himself.

With Hemsworth set to pick Mjölnir back up, we will get to see him back in action in December 2026 but before then, Thor will be making an appearance in another exciting release.

Thor will be joining the likes of Valkyrie, Zemo, John Walker, Namor, and more in Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies.

Set to launch in October 2025, Marvel Zombies is an upcoming animated television series set in the alternate timeline first introduced in the What If… Zombies?! episode of What If…?

The story will follow a group of survivors who must fight against former heroes and villains who have been turned into zombies and one of which will include Thor himself.

Consisting of just four episodes, this animated miniseries will welcome back actors such as Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Dominique Thorne, and many more.

News of the return of Thor and his fellow heroes broke over on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers and fans were quick to share their thoughts.

“This could be REALLY cool if it was handled with care,” user GratefulDoom90 shared.

“I feel like What If..? was really held back by studio mandates “No you can’t do that…. We’re planning on doing that in live action… but instead, we want you to TEASE all these cool ideas without actually doing them.”

Zombies is a little different though because it’s not like they’re planning on doing zombie horde stuff in Secret Wars, so they can really go crazy with it.”

“I'm so excited for this show,” another comment read.

“Zombie Wanda is finally back after multiple appearances and teases.”

Marvel Zombies is set to air on Disney+ on 3 October 2025.
