Spider-Man is getting a surprise new release with the return of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker.
Marvel fans had to wait years for Spider-Man to be in the MCU, all thanks to conflicting cinematic ownership between Marvel and Sony.
That time finally arrived in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War when Tony Stark uttered the words “underoos!” to signal the introduction of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the MCU for the very first time.
Long before Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield, we had Tobey Maguire as our friendly neighbourhood hero. Tobey Maguire played the role of Spider-Man in three movies from 2002 to 2007.

However, the less said about that convoluted mess that was Spider-Man 3, the better. Aside from Spider-Man 3, the first two movies starring Tobey Maguire were fantastic and launched the actor into a beloved status among Marvel fans.
Tobey Maguire would return as Spider-Man in the MCU’s No Way Home in 2021 alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. It was pure cinematic bliss, to say the least.
But if you missed Tobey Maguire playing his version of Spider-Man, more precisely, the 2004 sequel, soon will be your chance to see what all the fuss was about.
As reported by The Direct, Spider-Man 2 is returning to the silver screen later this year.

Not only is Spider-Man 2 returning, but it’s an extended cut version that was only originally released on DVD in 2007, as announced with a glorious Spider-Man 2.1 official poster.
Spider-Man 2.1 is part of a Fathom Events special promotion and will be arriving in cinemas on 27 September 2025. You’ll have to check local listings to see if it's being shown at a cinema near you.
As for the current version of Peter Parker in the MCU, Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently scheduled to be released on 31 July 2026 as part of the MCU Phase Six.
