Venom is finally going to be let loose in an R-rated setting, through an upcoming animated film from The Boys writer.

Sony has been all over the place when it comes to its comic book characters, with the most recent film in the Sony-verse, Madame Web, being a complete flop, whereas the Venom films have done quite well despite harsh reviews from critics.

Take a look at the Madame Web trailer below

While many fans would likely urge Sony to call it a day and start making Spider-Man projects that actually have Spider-Man in them, it seems the company has other ideas in mind.

One such idea is an R-rated, animated Venom film that’s reportedly in early stages of development, and being written/produced by Seth Rogen.

Rogen has famously been involved in a number of successful superhero projects over the last few years, including the Amazon Prime TV shows Invincible and The Boys, though the star is yet to touch any Marvel or DC IP.

It’s said the film won’t be connected to the live-action films starring Tom Hardy, the last of which will premiere later this year and is titled Venom: The Last Dance.

While some fans were sceptical about Rogen’s involvement in the project others referred to the recent shows he’s been involved with, believing he’d do a great job with an R-rated Venom.

One fan wrote: “After the run he's had, I trust him with any comic book property!"

“Seth Rogen?! This about to cook," another added.

Of course all of this is pure speculation and rumour at the moment, as neither Rogen nor Sony have confirmed if Venom will be getting additional projects after Venom: The Last Dance.

There’s also speculation that Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 are back on the table following their appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
