MCU's Steve Rogers officially returning for wild new sequel

Assemble!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is welcoming back Captain America, the Steve Rogers version, just not in the way we last saw him.

After we said farewell to Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame fans have been brainstorming ways to bring him back into the fold, after all the multiverse is a vast ocean of possibilities.

There’s a new Captain America now though, Sam Wilson, in Captain America: Brave New World

Something fans really wanted to see was a Disney+ series that would see Rogers travelling through time as he returns all the Infinity Stones to their rightful places, but that’s seemingly never happening.

Fortunately Steve Rogers will be returning in a new Marvel project, and it’s not related to the rumoured role Chris Evans has taken in Avengers: Doomsday.

It’s none other than Marvel Zombies, the upcoming miniseries built off the success of the What If?.. Season One episode.

As you can imagine it follows the MCU being infected with an undead plague, based on the comicbook series of the same name.

Four episodes are apparently being released, and Marvel Studios says it’ll be presented as a mini-movie, hopefully with enough quality to make up for the lack of quantity.

Showrunner Bryan Andrews has teased the project saying “we don’t have to pull punches, we can be a little bit more hardcore. We go for the throat — no pun intended. It’s pretty wild.”

He went on to say "An old favorite also shows up: Zombie Cap makes an appearance … He has quite a scuffle with another main character, and I think fans will love it."

We previously saw zombie Captain America fight Bucky Barnes in What If?.. so it’s unclear which character he’ll be taking on this time.

Marvel Zombies will apparently air on Disney+ later this year on 3 October, and sounds like it’ll be a wild ride.
