According to a recent report, Avengers: Doomsday is bringing Chris Evans back to the MCU.

Captain America, real name Steve Rogers, was portrayed by Chris Evans and was one of the leading members of the Avengers pretty much since the MCU began alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Without giving too much away, the story of Iron Man and Captain America ended perfectly in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, paving the way for new heroes to lead the charge against the forces of evil.

This is why it surprised the masses when Disney and Marvel decided to bring back Robert Downey Jr to the MCU - not as Iron Man though, but instead as the Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom. Now, it seems Chris Evans may be getting the same treatment.

As reported by The Wrap, Chris Evans will be making a triumphant return in Avengers: Doomsday following his returning cameo as Johnny Storm of Fantastic Four in this year's Deadpool & Wolverine.

It’s not known in what capacity Chris Evans will return in Avengers: Doomsday. He could return as Captain America or much like Robert Downey Jr., it could be a different character entirely, perhaps as a villain.

Of course, he could simply feature in a flashback scene as Captain America, but if Chris Evans were to return as a villain, there are other intriguing characters he could play in the world of the Fantastic Four.

If I were to take a single guess, my money would be on the villain known as the Maker, a master manipulator and a multiverse version of the Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards.

These rumours are unconfirmed at this time, so we should take the reports with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, hopefully, Marvel and Disney will let the proverbial cat out of the bag in the coming months.

We should learn more by the time The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in July 2025 followed by Avengers: Doomsday in May 2026. However, before that, we have Captain America: Brave New World to look forward to on 14 February 2025.
