Doctor Doom’s motivation for his multiversal war has apparently leaked, and completely changes how we’ll see Avengers: Endgame from now on.

Avengers: Doomsday was recently teased at D23 and it sounds like it’s going to be yet another worldwide cinematic event.

Aside from the official details reported by Marvel Studios a number of leaks have gone live regarding the film’s plot, and what motivation Doctor Doom has for destroying, or rewriting, all of reality.

According to MyTimeToShineHello on X Doctor Doom is hunting for the MCU’s Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

Apparently when Steve travelled back in time to spend his life with Peggy it created an incursion that destroyed Doctor Doom’s universe and family, so his journey is one of revenge.

This supports other rumours that Chris Evans will reprise his role of Captain America in the next Avengers film, so there’s a chance these reports are accurate.

Obviously this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but if you watched the post-credit scene for Fantastic Four: First Steps it’s clear the Doctor Doom we’ll see in Avengers: Doomsday is the same one from that universe.

The Thunderbolts post-credit scene showed the Fantastic Four’s ship appearing in the 616 universe, suggesting something could have happened that forced the team to leave their universe behind.

Personally I think the story will take a different turn. One possibility is the Fantastic Four will simply be pursuing Doom to another universe because he kidnapped Franklin Richards. The other, less likely, scenario is Galactus was an anchor-being for his universe, and after presumably starving to death in the far reaches of space the universe starts to collapse.

We could theorise for hours and hours, but we won’t know for certain until Avengers: Doomsday arrives next year. Hopefully we get a trailer soon.
