Marvel fans have discussed the prospect of a popular MCU hero being a villain in Avengers: Doomsday.
Next week, Phase Six of the MCU truly begins with the arrival of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and hopefully, for the very first time, a live-action movie does this franchise the justice it deserves.
That being said, after being burned by the previous three Fantastic Four movies under Sony, I will still have a degree of caution, despite now being under the guidance of Marvel Studios and Disney.
In total, there will be four main MCU movies in Phase Six, at the time of writing. The aforementioned The Fantastic Four: First Steps, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, then Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

When it comes to Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel fans already have enough to contend with knowing that Robert Downey Jr. is no longer playing the charismatic and heroic Tony Stark, but instead, the maniacal villain Doctor Doom.
However, it looks like we’ll have another villain to wrap our minds around in Avengers: Doomsday, and that’s Doctor Strange!
Though to be fair, Doctor Strange has shown some villainous ways previously as we’ve seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well as some comics.
“According to rumours, Doctor Strange will be a villain in Avengers: Doomsday,” claimed Twitter account Marvel Updates.
Straight away, my instincts say that if he is a villain, he’s not our Doctor Strange but instead a multiverse variant.
“Duh. Because he isn’t Dr. Strange,” replied MakeUSA_Great, referring to a version from a different multiverse.
“If you read the Secret Wars comics, you'll see that it's not just a rumour,” said Vol_n_180.
“He should be on Dr. Doom's side! Read Secret Wars, guys, it’s amazing, even if you don’t like comics, even if you’ve never read one before in your life,” suggested NateRConley.
“It would be cool to see him as Doctor Doom’s right-hand man, like in the Secret Wars comic,” added Novaguy098.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives next week on 25 July 2025. As for Avengers: Doomsday, that’s currently scheduled to be released on 18 December 2026.
