Two Marvel heroes will reportedly die in Avengers: Doomsday, according to an MCU leak.
Avengers: Doomsday is already looking set to be one of the biggest MCU productions in years, with millions of fans wondering whether it can rekindle the success of the Marvel franchise leading up to the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were always going to be tough acts to follow, but with the likes of Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, as well as Eternals, all tainting the MCU, the probability of success was not made any easier.
Thankfully, however, earlier this year, we were treated to Thunderbolts* to conclude MCU Phase Six, and then The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which very much felt like the Marvel movie franchise is getting back on track.

With that in mind, hype for Avengers: Doomsday is high, as it continues to lay the foundations for Avengers: Secret Wars, which by that point, should see the X-Men team in the MCU for the very first time.
However, as exciting as it is waiting for Avengers: Doomsday to arrive, much like major deaths in Avengers: Endgame, we should be prepared to have our hearts broken once more.
Potential Avengers: Doomsday Spoilers Ahead
Before you proceed, please keep in mind that the following details include potentially huge spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday. Then again, we’ve not even seen a trailer for Avengers: Doomsday yet, and these are unconfirmed rumours at this point.
As picked up by MaxBlizz (via the Twitter user Majestic), sources have reportedly claimed that Steve Rodgers and his best friend, Bucky Barnes, will die in Avengers: Doomsday.
It’s also claimed that when Steve Rogers travelled back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame, this cursed the incursion, events that play a major part in Avengers: Doomsday.
By accident, Steve Rogers’ actions are said to have caused the death of Doctor Doom’s wife by accident, which results in the new Robert Downey Jr character relentlessly hunting him down.
Reading between the lines, it wouldn't surprise me if Steve Rodgers, the OG Captain America, sacrifices himself for the greater good, and as a way for him to attempt to make up for the incursion he caused.
Furthermore, with Bucky Barnes being his best friend, it makes sense that he’ll want to go out with a bang with Rodgers, especially considering both characters are well over 100 years old and have each lived eventful lives, which is putting it mildly.
Of course, these are unconfirmed rumours at this time, so they should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
The next MCU movie to arrive is Spider-Man: Brand New Day on 31 July 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on 18 December 2026, and finally, Avengers: Secret Wars on 17 December 2027.
