Marvel viewers are shocked to learn of a massive plot hole that could have ramifications for the entire MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are going to shatter the MCU as we know it, as so many universes are going to clash as both friends and foes.

The question at the top of viewers minds is what will be the catalyst for this multiversal war? Where did it all start? Some fans believe they’ve got an answer…

Reddit user FamousQuantity8007 shared an interesting theory from Avengers: Endgame, during the battle between present-day Captain America and his past self from Avengers: Assemble.

During the fight both Caps throw their shields at each other, which ricochet and plummet to the building floor. Later they fall as well and it’s believed the Cap from the present actually picked up his past self’s shield rather than his own.

Now we’ve learnt throughout numerous MCU shows and films that messing with timelines can be catastrophic, even causing incursions should they be too severe, prompting many to believe this fight is deeper than it appeared to be at the time.

“An interesting theory. Could it be enough to cause an incursion, seeing as it’s heavily theorized that Cap might have been the cause of the incursions? Does leaving something in the past that doesn’t belong there change the timeline?” replied one commenter.

Another suggested that “the bigger issue would be Thor taking Mjolnir completely out of one Timeline and into another, though it’s implied Cap returned Mjolnir when he travelled back with the stones, perhaps he returned his shield too?

It’s all very wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey and it probably means nothing in the long-run, but with the long-standing theory that it was Captain America who broke the MCU timeline, and Chris Evans rumoured to be returning for Avengers: Doomsday/Avengers: Secret Wars, the Russo Brothers could be cooking something big.
