Marvel fans heartbroken as hit MCU series officially ended

It's the end of the road for the show with infinite possibilities

One Marvel Cinematic Universe property is set to meet its end next month, and I can’t help but feel that this is wasted potential.

Disney Plus’ launch in 2019 hugely expanded the scale of the MCU.

Admittedly, it’s harder than ever to catch up on the MCU as a whole, as the saga extends well beyond the format of film now.

That being said, that’s about the only downside as also having a plethora of TV series - both animated and live-action - at our fingertips is pure joy.

You need look no further than the recent Agatha All Along which, despite having the lowest budget to date for an MCU TV series, was easily one of the saga’s very best.

Today though, it’s What if…? that I want to draw your attention to.

The animated series premiered in 2021 with a second season landing in December of last year.

The show will return for a third season next month but unfortunately, it’s also set to be What If…?’s final outing.

Take a look at the trailer for What if…?’s third and final season below.

You can likely see why I’m calling the series ‘wasted potential’.

The concept of What If…? is that it asks that titular question, exploring alternate possibilities within the MCU.

And so if there are infinite possibilities to explore, you have to wonder why the series is drawing to a close after just three seasons.

“No no no. You can't do this to me. This show deserves at least 10 seasons,” wrote one commenter on the show’s trailer.

“Marvel, it will be a TERRIBLE DECISION to end this series with this season. Please keep it going into more seasons,” added another.

“Infinite possibilities, only three seasons. [Shaking my head] Marvel, you could’ve milked this for years,” read one remark.

All make a very valid point.

I suppose we’ll never know the true reason behind the series’ cancellation.

On the flip side, we still have that final season to look forward to - and there are plenty of alternate takes on events that you can explore in the world of Marvel Comics.
