Fans awoke to the news this morning that both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars had been delayed, making the once summer blockbusters head into winter releases.
Originally planned to hit cinemas on 1 May 2026, the first instalment in the Avengers franchise since Avengers: Endgame back in 2019 has now been delayed until 18 December 2026.
Titled Avengers: Doomsday, the movie will mark the first Avengers movie in the MCU’s Phase Six and would see our band of superheroes come together to face off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Alongside delays for Doomsday, its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars also received a delay, moving from 7 May 2027 to 17 December 2027.
Incidentally, Avengers: Doomsday now hits cinemas on the same day as Dune: Messiah so that will be an interesting blockbuster battle to say the least.
Either way, the delay may be unexpected but it seems as though Marvel fans are fine with the film’s delay and took to r/marvelstudios following the announcement to share their thoughts.
“Better to delay and have a better story than rush it out,” user FerrusManlyManus shared.

RalphSkipperson agreed, adding, “Honestly I’m fine with it. Give time to film and get the CGI right. Just sucks that it’s going to be like seven years before we see some of these character introductions pay off.”
"Super expected," said Xyro77.
It is unclear why the delays have been implemented but the general consensus seems to be in support of it, hoping that this extra time will allow the movie to truly shine when it finally hits cinemas late next year.
Additionally, the delay means that fellow Marvel flick Spider-Man: Brand New Day will now be released before Doomsday, with the next Spidey instalment hitting cinemas on 31 July 2026.
